Joya Kapoor - Founder
I’m Joya Kapoor and welcome to Jyoti Yatra! Jyoti Yatra is a newly registered non-profit NGO based in the Delhi NCR, India and was set up in memory of my amazing aunt, Jyoti Goklany.

Jyoti Aunty was an extremely inspirational woman who bravely battled cancer for over 8 years. She was passionate and lively, and encouraged everyone around her to smile and be active, no matter what situation they were in. She was dedicated to improving the lives of those around her and always had a smile on her face and a joke on the tip of her tongue.

I want to carry on her legacy and help others just like she always did. Jyoti Yatra is a charitable organization that specializes in providing impoverished youth with sporting experiences that they’ve never had before. We work with slum children and young teens who are often denied opportunities for sports and other creative ways to express themselves due to their living situations.

Whether it be football, track and field, cricket, or even swimming, I believe that each and every child should have an equal opportunity to enjoy the thrill of competing in sports.

A Word About Us

The Jyoti Yatra NGO plans to hold inter school events for the underprivileged schools located in the slums. We want these kids to learn through the common language of Sports and to have healthy competition among each other. We feel that these schools do not have access to such inter school events.

The idea is to expose them to and involve them in sports as its important for healthy living and personal development.

We plan to start with the first Inter School Track Meet in April 2017 for Track and then make it a regular event for different kinds of sports. Our hope is to slowly increase the number of schools involved, even get kids from different cities to make this more into a regional and national event.

Khel Yatra  is an inter school Track Meet for Underprivileged Schools (NGOs) on Sunday April 9th at the Thyagaraj Stadium. This event  was a 100m dash for Middle School aged children 11-16 years old.

Vision: Through a series of races and brushes, the children will have an unprecedented opportunity to focus their energy into healthy competition and proudly display their skills in front of hundreds of eager onlookers. They will be given a chance to relax in a friendly atmosphere, an extremely important intervention to their normal fight for survival; and develop personal interests that allow them to h
ave a creative or active outlet that is beneficial to themselves and their community.

We had an overwhelming response to our first event of Khel Yatra on April 9th, 2017. We had 175 children from 15 schools that took part in the races with great enthusiasm. The stadium had a festive atmosphere. The whole event went very smoothly.
A big thank you to the following participating schools that took part and helped make Khel Yatra a huge success!
